THROUGH A GLASS BRIGHTLY marks the first collaboration between Pomet and König.”THROUGH A GLASS BRIGHTLY explores how it is that artists perceive and interpret the world, showcasing the myriad ways in which their creative vision can provide unique insights into pressing social issues and current events. The artworks are distinguished by their use of subversive humor, references to art and its histories, self-reflection, and self-representation. While not all works address political matters explicitly, the selection as a whole reflects prevailing feelings of uncertainty and fear today, vacillating between anxiety and escapism.”
Paco Pomet at Nino Mier Gallery, Brussels
In Some New Disorders, Pomet intrudes upon his signature monochromatic, realist scenes with illustrations that are both cartoonish and surreal. Pomet collects his source images from family archives, flea markets, and the internet. But rather than using photography to nostalgically reflect on the past, he uses these collected pictures as material for more contemporary aesthetic interventions. In his paintings and drawings, the new and the old collapse, fracturing divisions between modern and contemporary modes of representation.

Paco Pomet: Celestial
Between 2017 and 2022, the sun and the moon were prominent in much of Pomet’s output, serving as symbolic representations of the perpetual patterns and rhythms that shape our daily lives. By blending these celestial motifs into terrestrial contexts Pomet brings the cosmos into proximity, prompting viewers to look within themselves, rather than gaze upwards, in order to explore their connection with the universe and their place within it. This intensely personal, yet widely resonating perspective evokes questions around themes that are deeply embedded in our collective consciousness: the ebb and flow of time, the interconnectedness of life and death, and the continuity between beginnings and endings.
